Camp Oquisojo was founded on a simple principle: that small actions can have big consequences. To prove this, our campers complete a series of good deeds in their local community. It is our belief that by giving people the simple tools they need to make a difference, they become empowered to make a change not only their neighborhoods, but in themselves.
Starting a revolution can be hard work. That's why we keep our goals and objectives simple:
Help campers realize that they can change the world, no matter their age, income, or background.
Create tight knit, supportive communities through the power of progressive kindness.
Make lasting memories for our family, friends, and neighbors.
Change lives in small ways to show that even little acts of kindness can have a big, powerful impact.
“Happiness grows when you're helping others.”
AUSTIN HUDSON | FOUNDER
Camp Oquisojo (pronounced 'oak-key-sew-joe', taking it's name from the Oquirrh Mountains to the west of South Jordan, Utah) was founded in early 2016. The premise was this: is it possible to multiply happiness? Helping others makes them happy, and in turn makes you happy yourself. So if one person could change someone else's day for the better, could a team of ten people improve ten other people's days? What would happen if you unleashed a team of fifty people on their local community?
Thus, South Jordan was introduced to Camp Oquisojo. What started as an experiment between two friends quickly became a group of ten, then twenty, then fifty, and finally more than a hundred. Members of the group came to be known as Campers, acting under a single Camp Director who would assign a daily task and simply ask that it be completed before the end of the day. Sometimes these tasks were easy, such as leaving a nice note for someone you know. Other times they were large, complicated endeavors designed to radically alter someone's day, week, or even month.
Since that first session, Camp Oquisojo has continued to grow as campers have discovered the joys of selflessly giving to and serving others. Are you interested in changing your community? You've come to the right place.
